The CAO (Central Applications Office) uses a points system to select students for higher education programmes in Ireland. Your CAO points are calculated based on your Leaving Certificate results.
How it works: Most colleges use your best six Leaving Certificate subjects to calculate your CAO points. Each grade from H1 (highest) to O7 (lowest) has a corresponding point value.
Grade Scale: Higher Level grades range from H1 (100 points) to H8 (0 points). Ordinary Level grades range from O1 (56 points) to O7 (0 points).
Use this calculator to estimate your points and help plan which courses you might be eligible for. Remember, different programmes have different point requirements.
